As anyone in the music industry will attest, the influence of producer and songwriter KC Porter on the course of Latin popular music can hardly be overstated. His involvement in some of the most important albums and artists to move Latin music forward, and to cross over to US and international audiences, has earned him multiple Grammy awards and many more accolades over the years. The list of his collaborators reads like a who's-who of the genre: Selena, Ricky Martin, Santana, Luis Miguel, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Ozomatli, Ana Gabriel and Maná, to name a few.
There is another side of KC's musical world, less known but increasingly coming to the fore: his work as a performing and recording artist in his own right. The early highlights are easy to trace: in addition to singing the lead vocal on 'Primavera' from Santana's breakthrough Supernatural album, KC has graced stages worldwide next to iconic world artists such as Algerian superstar Khaled, beloved Chinese pop icon Lin Cheng and others. In 2012 KC self-released Where The Soul Is Born, a compilation of his own spiritually-inspired tracks alongside some of his vocal performances from previous albums.
2019 will see a crucial turning point in KC's artistic evolution as he launches a project that represents the culmination of many years of hard work and collaborative magic: 'CRUZANDEROS,' an album, a band, a story that crosses borders both physical and conceptual, spanning genres and generations.
Inspired by KC's upbringing in Guatemala at the height of its violent unrest in the 1970s and 80s, Cruzanderos follows the journey of the masses of souls looking for a new life in a new land, touching on the universal emotions and aspirations that unite us all.
To achieve such a vision, KC brought in key players from throughout his history - some whom he mentored before they were famous, some who have been his closest collaborators over the years, and a few whose work has always inspired his own. The result is a profoundly rooted yet polished sound, steeped in the rhythms of Latin America as well as the sonic signatures of Los Angeles, the city where KC was born and now calls home.
